Upton Park 1980's
Why didn't it seem deemed for our fans to be fenced in like Millwall, Tottenham , Chelsea who grounds all had fences to keep the fans off the pitch ??

While on the subject of getting on the pitch are people really going to bottle it by not getting on last game?

If supported another team can assure you Tottenham would be up there with Celtic for not supporting

Couldn't hate two teams more

I didn't miss many home games throughout the 80's.
I don't recall any opposition supporters trying it on at ours.
When we travelled away anywhere in London we took the piss, and some.

Wasn't the Leeds game a few years earlier, 1989? Vinnie Jones got the winner. Biggest away support that I've seen at UP by far.

That the Vinny Jones game?? We was down Green Street having a beer before the game when a shout went out that Leeds had arrived... still say that was the biggest mob I have ever seen arrive at our place... it was a never ending line of Yorskshiremen all wearing Vinny's gonna get ya T-Shirts... quite a sight

"Keep those fences away from Upton Park"

Where do I remember that from? Did old Bill Remfry used to say it or was it in the programme?

Yes Norm, I guess it didn't hurt that I sometimes had claret and blue spiky hair. Mainly black though.

I will say one thing about Upton Park in the 80s, I was a punk back then and got into trouble with skins virtually everywhere I went- gigs, in the street, clubs-everywhere other than at West Ham.

Amazing really as I rarely if ever saw another punk at Upton Park. Sounds a bit romantic and sentimental but we all got stuck in together- casuals too. It was West Ham first. I never felt out of place in a pub full of West Ham, however they were dressed.

Pretty much..few managed it...Everton on the coach..Chelsea in the 4-1 lunchtime game brought a tasty mob for once.
The Mancs and Arsenal one year.
That's about it.

My boy will be getting on the pitch, nothing will stop him, the new stadium ban threat is a load of bollocks. I'll be in my seat just reminiscing since my first game in 1969. This season has flown by, May 10th is not a date I'm looking forward to.

Well, Millwall, Tottenham and Chelsea were never going to have the bottle and run on the pitch and have a go at West Ham at Upton Park were they?

Mong.

I remember a few invasions from visiting fans at UP

normally when the home fans came out of the south bank tunnel behind them - only place to go was on the pitch
